The Trainer

Basima Abdulrahman has ten years of diverse civil engineering experience focused on sustainable development in Iraq. Her core expertise is in green building assessment tools and amplified strategies that lead to enhanced building performance. She is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the first company established to introduce the concept of green design and construction to Iraq, called KESK. KESK aims to change the way buildings and communities planned, constructed, maintained and operated in Iraq. Basima’s vision is to make Iraqi cities more sustainable, inclusive and

economically productive by making buildings and infrastructure healthy, environmentally responsible, and resource-efficient.

Before starting her own business, Basima worked as a National Consultant and Project Manager for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), managing projects on damage and needs assessments for conflict-affected areas, recovery and stabilization, sustainable land management and government’s capacity development.

Basima worked as a Teaching Assistant at Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, Auburn University between 2012-2014. She began her career as an Assistant Engineer at the Directorate of Duhok Governorate supervising government projects and preparing relevant structural calculation notes.

Basima is a LEED-Accredited Professional by the U.S. Green Building Council. She’s a World Economic Forum Global Shaper and Cultural Leader, a TEDx speaker, a Climate Trailblazer, and a Fulbright alumna. She was selected to co-chair the 2019 WEF Annual Meeting from 22-25 January alongside the CEO of Microsoft and the President of World Bank. She was featured on Forbes, TIME, and Business Insider among other platforms for leading the green building work in Iraq. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Duhok University, Iraq and a Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering from Auburn University, USA.

 

When and where is the course being held?

The course will take place at MSELECT Academy's training centre in Erbil, starting on Wednesday, June 19th, 2019, until Thursday 20th from 9:00 am to 15:00 pm
