Job Description

MSELECT is looking to hire a Chief Mechanic for an international oil services company in Erbil. Candidates must have minimum 5 years of experience in a relevant role. Fluency in English and Kurdish is a must.

  • Management of the Chief Mechanic Service of the Company, including functional control of the Mechanical Service and Maintenance Repair Teams within the Operations Division at KPS0, KPS1, KPS2, KPS3 (future development), RETM, Fishkhabour Metering Station;
  • Organization of development and control over fulfilment of the schedules of inspections, testing and planned preventive maintenance and repairs of mechanical and process equipment, machines and ancillaries under operation in the Company;
  • Organization and control of maintenance between repairs, timely and high-quality repair and modernization of the mechanical and process equipment, and machines, work to improve their reliability and durability with a rational use of materials for the repair works;
  • Participation in the development of internal normative documents on repair of mechanical and process equipment, Pump Station facilities, machines, material consumption on maintenance needs, preparation of cost estimates for carrying out repairs;
  • Preparation of requisitions and cost estimates for the purchase of materials and spare parts required for operation and planned repairs of mechanical and process equipment and machines;
  • Organization and control over the record of the availability and movements of equipment, machines, machine-hour accounting, preparation and execution of technical and accounting documentation. Preparation of lists of equipment and machines in need of capital repair;
  • Formation and management of field teams for the repair of equipment, machines on the pipeline route and at remote sites;
  • Preparation of proposals for the modernization of the mechanical and process equipment, machines, reconstruction, technical re-equipment of the Company, the introduction of the integrated tools of mechanization and automation of technological processes, environmental protection, participation in the development of plans for improving production efficiency;
  • Organization of participation of the representatives from the Chief Mechanic Service in the inventory taking of the Company’s assets, identification of obsolete and worn out equipment, machines, facilities, requiring capital repairs or subject to write off. Planning the sequential order of repair works;
  • Development and control over implementation of activities on prevention of unplanned stops, equipment, machines, extension service units and parts, overhaul periods, improve the safety of equipment, machines, improve the reliability of its operation; organization of specialized repairs, centralized production of spare parts, components and replacement of equipment and tools;
  • Analysis of the reasons for the increased wear of equipment, downtime; development of measures aimed at reducing unplanned repairs and downtime;
  • Participation in the investigation of the accidents and equipment shutdowns, the development and implementation of measures for their elimination and prevention;
  • Provision of quality control of works on installation of equipment and machines, rational spending of funds for capital repair, proper storage and conservation of the equipment and machines in the warehouses (jointly with the Warehouse Management Service):
  • Organization of record keeping and control over timely validation and presentation of the equipment, lifting machines and auxiliaries to the authorized Technical Regulatory Bodies;
  • Organization of works on preparation and issue of the technical passports on mechanical and process equipment, machines and structures of the Company in accordance with the decision on nomination of responsible persons; regular update of the technical passports and submission for approval by the Company management;
  • Provision of technical support to the employees of other structural units engaged in maintenance and repair of mechanical and process equipment, machines, structures of the Company;
  • Participation in the expert review of the Terms of Reference, design and manufacturer documentation, vendor proposals, internal normative documents of the Company within the assigned business area;
  • Interaction with the State Regulatory Bodies of the Kurdistan Region and Republic of Iraq within assigned Business Area;
  • Control over the timely correction of breaches revealed by the authorized State regulatory Bodies or by the internal audits;
  • Interaction with system and equipment suppliers and maintenance/repair contractors within the assigned competencies;
  • Participation in the acceptance for works and services performed by contractors, as well as in the startup of the new systems and equipment within the assigned business area;
  • Interaction with the HR Management Division on the issues of organization of the qualification upgrade of the Business Unit employees by means of theoretical classes and practical trainings to perform the functions of the Business Unit;
  • Development, control and management of a reporting and record keeping system within the assigned business area; submission of the reporting to the Company Management;
  • Participation in the work of Tender Committee within assigned business duties;
  • Participation in the work of the Technical Council within assigned business duties;
  • Participation in the preparation of short-term and long-term work plans and budgets within the assigned Business area;
  • Participation in the preparation of specifications for procurement of mechanical and process equipment, as well as the services from contractors;
  • Jointly with the Director for Procurement, development, control and management of plans for supply and storage of equipment and machines;
  • Interaction with the HR Management Division and subordinated organization units in order to define job profiles, select suitable candidates for interviews and propose candidates for new positions;
  • Control over compliance with the Company's internal work regulations, requirements for industrial safety, labor protection, environment, data integrity measures by employees of subordinate units.

  • Higher technical education, preferably in the discipline “Equipment and machines of oil and gas industry”.
  • Knowledge of the applicable International standards, rules and best practices related to operation, maintenance and repair of the mechanical and process equipment in the petroleum industry;
  • Knowledge of transportation process, accounting, acceptance and transfer of crude oil or petroleum products;
  • Knowledge of equipment assembly, rules of operation and technology for commissioning startup, operation, maintenance and repair of equipment and machines;
  • Knowledge of the rules for acceptance and handover of the equipment after repairs.
  • Kurdish fluent;
  • English good command.
  • Min. 5 years of relevant professional experience, out of which at least 3 years in managerial positions in the area of operations, maintenance and repair of mechanical and process equipment, preferably in petroleum companies;
  • Practical experience in commissioning, operation, maintenance and repair of mechanical and process equipment;
  • Experience in interaction with the State Technical Bodies;
  • Experience in drawing up statements of defects, passports, equipment manuals and other technical documentation.
  • Proficiency in using standard office software such as MS Windows and MS Office;
  • Proficiency in using modern communication tools such as internet, e-mail, mobile phone, telephone / video conferencing, messenger systems.
