Job Description

Mselect is seeking to hire a Production Operator for one of its international Oil & Gas clients to be based in Kurdistan.

A Production Operator shall operate plant process, wells and utility systems effectively and safety with maximised production rates. It is expected that procedures will be followed at all times and that Management Systems and local regulatory compliance are met in all aspects of work. The Production Site Operator will facilitate routine maintenance by isolations and reinstatement, liaising with CRO.


Production facility equipment covered includes oil and gas production systems, wells with ESP, oil stabilisation, gas sweetening and dehydration, produced water injection, power generation, fire and gas detection systems, ESD systems, Export pipeline, metering and utilities systems.



  • Start up, Operate, Monitor and Shut Down wells, process and utility systems
  • Monitor, maintain and optimize process parameters (Level, flow, temperature, pressure etc) within operating requirements
  • Ensure sampling is carried out and sample results are acted upon
  • Trouble shoot to maximize export quality and delivery volume to identify problems
  • Monitor and operate electrical/hydraulic control panels, safety and emergency shutdown devices, Fire and Gas Systems
  • Ensure accurate and timely production reporting and logging is submitted daily or as required
  • by the company
  • Witness third party calibrations when on site


Health and Safety

  • Work to Company MS policies and procedures in particular Isolation Standards, PTW and toolbox talks
  • Carry out all operations in safe and environmentally sound manner
  • Report all discharges, leaks, spills, injuries, and incidents, immediately
  • Ensure vendor and subcontract personnel within responsibility understand and comply with current environmental regulations.
  • Work area within your own responsibility is kept clean and free of hazards
  • In coordination with the Production Supervisor, ensure that all work in area of responsibility is carried out in strict compliance with permit-to-work systems
  • Provide Support and guidance to those working in area of responsibility on the Permit to work system, contribute to Tool Box Talks and Audits
  • Positive action is taken to stop hazards and unsafe behaviours
  • All potential and actual incidents are reported to the relevant Supervisor



  • Facilitate maintenance operations by applying/removing isolations as required and preparing equipment for maintenance intervention
  • Operation under PTW system, Toolbox Talk and Risk Assessments
  • Advise maintenance personnel on hazards of plant and equipment
  • Maintain clear and precise communications during maintenance operations

Monitor and Maintain Pollution Control Measures

  • Monitor the controlled discharges from area of responsibility to the environment and take corrective active and/or report to the Production Shift Supervisor if they are out with  the prescribed limits
  • Identify and halt unplanned discharges where possible, and reported immediately to the Production Shift Supervisor
  • Ensure that equipment, waste or other materials for disposal are dealt with according to the correct procedure and that worksites in area of responsibility are kept clean and tidy.
  • Resources such as PPE materials tools and spares are not wasted or used inefficiently

Emergency Response

  • Show competence and initiative during emergency drills and exercises
  • Contribute to the response for plant emergencies, acting to instructions of Production Shift Supervisor
  • Carry out Emergency Response role

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Formal Process operating qualification or local technical school equivalent. (Processing Operations Hydrocarbons Level 3 or  CRO Level 3 or similar)
  • Minimum 1-3 years’ experience
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of Oil & Gas production, process and utilities systems, operations and wells
  • Familiar with “permit to work” systems, isolation procedures and safety management systems
  • Knowledge of all aspects of safety management
  • Good English language communication skills, spoken & written
  • Experience of working in a high H2S oil & gas facility is desirable
  • Experience of working in a project environment
  • Experience working with and training subordinate staff.

  • Technical: Appropriate standard of technical knowledge as defined by competencies
  • IT: Familiarity with computerised maintenance recording systems Practical familiarity with standard ‘Office’ software package. Operation and use of Internet and electronic mail system
