Job Description

MSELECT, on behalf of a major global Oil and Gas client in Basra is looking for an Electrical Engineer, responsible to manage all electrical activities for projects undertaken by the Infrastructure Projects department from design inception through to contracting and execution, 5+ years, experience in a Petrochemical or Oil and Gas environment, the position is office based 5 working days and 2 days off, candidate must be fluent in Arabic and English.
 
Key responsibilities
  • To plan, direct, schedule, coordinate and budget a wide range of electrical activities.
  • Evaluation of Statements of Requirements in order to determine appropriate electrical implementation methods.
  • Design of electrical systems in terms of loads, cable size and safety aspects etc.
  • Review of contractor submitted electrical engineering drawings in order to ensure alignment with project deliverables and the Scope of Work.
  • Review of “as built” packages.
  • Take part in audits, inspections and safety observation tours giving clear direction on electrical engineering issues.
  • Ensure adherence to; and implementation of, Management of Change Procedure from inception through to Factory Acceptance Testing and commissioning.
  • Apply solid engineering judgment at all times and ensure the Organization’s current codes, procedures and standards are adhered to.
  • Periodic reviews of Electrical Work Permits. Provide guidance as required.
  • Assess, mentor on competency / implement training needs of electrical personnel.
  • Promote a positive HSE culture and provide HSE guidance to contractors in support of their activities. Participate as an Investigation Team member for HSE incidents.
  • Communicate Electrical instructions on and confirm full understanding to prevent repetition of “near miss” incidents.
  • Periodic reviews and revisions of Checklists pertaining to the position.
  • Compile / distribute comprehensive reports.
  • Compile Electrical handovers pre / post field breaks.
  • Active involvement in commissioning of electrical systems.
  • Assist in the drafting of electrical elements of tender documentation.
  • Answer technical queries raised during the tender process and participate in evaluation of bid returns.
 
Job requirements
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Understanding of current British Electrical Engineering Standards.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English.
  • Able to communicate and interact with people.
  • Proven problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage electrical projects in all stages i.e. conception, design, costing and execution.
  • Ability to produce electrical drawings.
  • Ability to undertake cost engineering.
  • Complete understanding of electrical systems infrastructure, functionality, design and rationale for selection.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, whilst exercising discretion essential.
  • Self-driven, resilient and pragmatic.
  • Ability to be flexible in covering quick turn-around projects (such as shut-downs).
  • Work to the highest personal & professional standards to achieve or exceed set objectives.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and embrace charter values.
  • Foster good relationships and team working ethic with sub-contract teams to promote safe working practices and efficiency.
  • Experience of working in an integrated team from diverse locations.
  • Bachelors’ Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years, experience in a Petrochemical or Oil and Gas environment.
  • Proven experience in design and project management.
  • Previous experience in using drawing software (AutoCAD, Visio etc.).
  • Good English Language skills (written and spoken).
  • Competent in Microsoft Office software.
  • Previous experience in working with project management software (ideally MS Project).
  • Knowledge and understanding of UK IEE Electrical regulations (BS7671)/17th Edition.
