MSELECT is looking to hire a Senior Wellsite Geologist for an international service provider in Kurdistan. Must have minimum 15 Years of providing Wellsite Geology services and Excellent communication (written & verbal skills) in English

Job Summary and Scope of Responsibilities
Provides onsite operational support to the drilling team by analyzing rocks from the oil and gas wells and identifying formation into which drilling should take place

Responsibilities
  • Act as Company and Geosciences representative at wellsite.
  • Mentor and train local wellsite geology personnel.
  • Supervise the Mud Logging Unit
  • QA/QC the Mudlogging logging unit and associated equipment (including the backups) for their physical condition and contractor’s inspection/calibration reports.
  • Advise mud logging personnel of program requirements and revisions.
  • Coordinate with Company Man with respect to subsurface and well monitoring. In case of any abnormality, inform the Company Man and Dubai Office.
  • Collect and review required reference data for well, technical package, correlation/ offset logs, maps, prognoses, Onsite Operational Responsibilities.
  • Advise operations personnel on-site and in the office.
  • Conduct cuttings sample evaluation and description (general lithology, grain size, sorting, roundness, porosity, consolidation and cementation).
  • Correlations & integration with offset wells for Geological Well Operations.
  • Analyse and describe hydrocarbon shows: stain, visual cut, surface fluorescence, cut fluorescence.
  • Picking of Formation Tops.
  • Fault recognition and characterization.
  • Pick casing point: using Isopach, correlations, changes in drilling parameters, samples and logs.
  • Pick core point: using Isopach, correlations, changes in drilling parameters, samples and logs.
  • Witness and QA/QC of all coring operations.
  • Mud Log correlation/interpretation and quality assurance.
  • Real-time Pore Pressure analysis, monitoring trends in drilling parameters, real-time LWD Formation Evaluation data, lagged gas data, sample/drill cutting analysis, borehole conditions.
  • Gas Ratio analysis.
  • Revise/update geologic markers and target projections.
  • TD determination.
  • Sample quality control and documentation.
  • Forward projections and real or apparent thickness corrections.
  • Supervision of Wellsite Biostratigraphic Services
  • QA/QC the M/LWD logging unit/tools (including the backups) for their physical condition and contractor’s inspection/calibration reports.
  • Monitoring acquisition operation and quality assurance of M/LWD logs.
  • QA/QC the wireline logging unit/tools (including the backups) for their physical condition and contractor’s inspection/calibration reports.
  • Monitoring acquisition operation and quality assurance of wireline logs.
  • Advice rig team on geologic risks, casing and core points. Attend morning meetings and any others as needed or requested.
  • In case of horizontal/deviated well, advise directional driller on target objective(s) and geosteering requirements if applicable, and proactively direct changes or adjustments in well trajectory to ensure objectives are met.
  • Distribute daily reports, files and interpreted data to Operator’s designated representatives and others as approved and directed.
  • Compile detailed records, writing reports, completing daily, weekly and post-well reporting logs and sending these to appropriate departments
  • Prepare final Geological Well Report (End of Well Summary) and Composite Log by integrating all data.
  • Awareness and adherence to HSE policies and Code of Conduct.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially with other team members from different disciplines (Drilling Supervisor, Geophysicist, Petrophysicist etc.).
  • Supervision of mudlogging team & all other staff at the well site involved in the acquisition of geologically-related data.
  • QC of all geologically-related data & reporting from the well site.
  • Supervision of MWD/LWD unit.
  • Realtime Monitoring responsibilities.
  • Clear & effective communication with Operations Geologist, drilling team and Service company personnel.
  • Detailed lithological analysis & oil show testing of drilled cuttings, drawing up of company lithological + Composite logs.
  • Compilation, transmission and archiving of all required reports and logs on a daily & weekly + ad-hoc basis, compilation of Geological Final Well report.
  • Picking of casing & coring points.
  • Witnessing & QC of all wireline & coring activities at the rig site.
  • Formation Pressure evaluation.
  • Supervision of Wellsite Biostratigraphic Services.
  • Control of geological samples & cores - ensuring samples are correctly packed & labelled, manifests are correct, shipment is completed; correct archiving of samples in sample store.
  • Field studies including rig site & access route scouting & selection.
  • Acting as Company liaison with seismic survey companies during seismic acquisition.
  • REPORTS & DELIVERABLES
  • Contractor is to provide Specialist WSG assistance under this Agreement that meets the following Performance Expectations:
  • That all Company’s geologically related operations are carried out safely & without risk to the crew
  • Ensuring that all geological objectives of the Well Program are achieved
  • Evaluation of the current geological situation versus the geological prognosis, and clear & effective communication with all affected parties
  • Obtaining the maximum amount of geological information from the well, and ensuring that this information is both accurate in nature and recorded properly
  • Contribution to drilling safety by the detection real time of geological conditions and/or unexpected events which might affect well stability and safety
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or equivalent
  • Level of Seniority: Functional Manager
  • + 20 years Oil industry experience.
  • + 15 Years providing Wellsite Geology services.
  • Previous provision of ‘Specialist Wellsite Geology Services’ to operators in Kurdistan.
  • Previous fractured carbonate experience
