MSELECT is looking for a Deputy Transport Manager for a major global Oil and Gas client in Basrah. testing, minimum experience of not less than 15 years, the candidate must be fluent in Arabic and English
Job summary
Reporting to the Business Support Manager and working as part of the Transport Department, the Deputy Transport Manager will provide support for the day to day management of Transport in support of the safe delivery of transportation activities.
Key responsibilities
  • Assists the Transport Manager to develop a team of drivers and transport assistants, to deliver a high quality service to the business.
  • Ensures high standards of service delivery through the consistent application of recognised standards and established policies, procedures and practices.
  • Ensures the Transport Team deliver the service appropriate to the changing needs of the business, in line with relevant guidance and individual risk assessments.
  • Develops and implements a proactive, planned and structured approach to the maintenance of vehicles and ensuring all vehicles used are fit for purpose, whilst maximising the efficiency of the transport fleet.
  • Ensures that all in house vehicles are compliant with all legal and regulatory requirements, conformant to the organisation Driving Safety Standards, and where necessary escalating any identified issues and recommending resolution to the Transport Manager.
  • Ensures contractors vehicles meet the organisation roadworthiness specifications issuing the relevant checklists and compliance certificates   
  • Takes the lead role in planning and allocating routes and vehicles ensuring sufficient flexibility is in place to meet the varying and changing needs of the business, to include scheduling and reviewing driver's rotas, plans and vehicle allocations and availability.
  • Takes the lead in resolving unforeseen problems as they arise ensuring appropriate resolution of these and to utilise the learning to plan for future similar scenarios
  • Promotes a safety first culture and sense of common purpose through the embodiment of the organisation’s Vision and Values, to create effective leadership within the Transport Team.
  • Works in a safe and effective manner at all times and develops and nurtures a safety first culture with all employees
  • Ensures vehicle workshops meet the organisation safety, working and operating standards, policies and procedures.
  • Develop, implement and review equipment, spares and parts requisitions to ensure efficiency in maintenance and repairs to keep down time to a minimum.
Required:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English;
  • Mechanical knowledge of light and heavy vehicles, including buses;
  • Previous experience of managing a large vehicle/fleet maintenance program;
  • Previous experience of implementing, managing and operating a large fleet parts inventory:
  • Computer literate with experience of working with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Formal Internationally recognised HSE qualification to certificate level;
  • Able to demonstrate previous experience working with spreadsheets, graphs and collation of data; and
  • Bachelor degree in a relevant subject or minimum experience of not less than 15 years
Preferred:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in Arabic;
  • Current or previous holder of a Certificate of Professional Competency (CPC); and
Heavy vehicle driving license.
