MSELECT is looking to hire a Wellsite Geologist for an international oil and gas operator in Duhok. Candidates must have a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience and be fluent in English and Kurdish.
JOB OBJECTIVES
- To work as a Wellsite Geologist during drilling operations
- Review well cuttings to understand formation type (expected vs actual)
- Forecast expected lithology changes supporting drilling derived depths
- Provide insight to mud-log and cuttings uncertainty to support drilling decisions
- Efficient gathering/evaluation and management of mudlog and other well data
- Work closely with the wellsite drilling supervisor to ensure efficient and safe well operations
- Keeping Operations Geology Team Leader informed of all changes, news, and events whether expected or not
- Management of data/information flow from the wellsite to the Erbil and London offices: preparation of final well reports
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide the principal point of contact between the Erbil based sub-surface department and the wellsite, specific tasks to include;
- Principal point of contact with Erbil based sub-surface team to ensure they are kept fully informed during drilling operations and are aware of any pending decisions requiring their input
- Principal point of contact with the wellsite drilling supervisor to ensure sub-surface objectives are met during drilling operations
- Responsible for daily ongoing management of the mudlogging contractor and QC of all mud-log data provided by the contractor (cuttings descriptions, gas data, drilling data, daily reports)
- Make independent cuttings descriptions to QC and compare with the mud logger descriptions
- Ensure that all cuttings/core are properly collected, prepared and preserved in the appropriate containers
- Analyse, evaluate & describe formations while drilling, using cuttings, gas, hydrocarbon shows, FEWD (formation evaluation measurement while drilling) and wireline data
- Compare data gathered during drilling with well prognosis and offset well data
- Advise on drilling hazards
- Provide the wellsite input for selection of casing points
- Compilation/updating of masterlog / composite log on a daily basis
- Preparation of the daily geological reports from the wellsite
- Assist in the preparation of the geological sections of the EOWR
- Wireline and FEWD Logging supervision during drilling/logging operations
- Perform initial description of cores taken during the drilling operation
- Manage the coring contractor on-site to ensure all relevant mud samples are taken and the cores are prepared correctly (marking, labeling, etc.) for transport
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Degree in Geoscience or related discipline
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- A minimum of 3- 5 years working as a Wellsite Geologist
- Advanced English language skills
- Detailed knowledge of the geology of Kurdistan
- Experience with drilling operations in fractured carbonates is essential
- Experience in Northern Kurdistan, particularly with deep high-pressure reservoirs
- Proficient in GEO Operations Geology software
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Some proficiency in Interactive Petrophysics software preferable
- Good understanding of drilling operations & solid geoscience background
- High degree of computer literacy
- Meticulous in compiling digital databases and high degree of quality control
- Hard working, enthusiastic and shows good initiative in proposing new projects and where necessary challenging current methods and approaches
- Good team player able to communicate and co-operate with other sub-surface disciplines and other departments
- Able to communicate well with local staff from the area of the well operations
- Good understanding of all aspects of operations
- Ability to write coherent reports and communicate and present results effectively to management
